[Diagnostic imaging in spinal tumors].

W J Huk1, G Schuierer.

Abstract

In addition to noninvasive imaging procedures, conventional radiology and isotope scintigraphy, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are also now available for the diagnosis of tumors of the spinal column. For specific problems, invasive methods like myelography and angiography are still indicated. The latter serves at the same time as an access for therapeutic endovascular procedures (i.e., embolization), which are mostly necessary preoperatively in highly vascular tumors. The diagnostic value of individual methods is discussed. For the invasive procedures, the risks are discussed and recommendations are made to avoid complications.
