Abstract
Between 1950 and the present day 17 patients who had been treated for hemiplegic epilepsy by hemispherectomy were followed up. The outcomes of surgery in terms of survival, arrest of dementia, relief from gross disorders of behaviour and from habitual epilepsy were uniformly good. It is concluded that hemispherectomy has an enduring rôle in the treatment of hemiplegic epilepsy for patients who are carefully selected, prepared and postoperatively rehabilitated.Entities:
