Squamous cell carcinoma of the rectum arising in an area of squamous metaplasia.

Abstract

Squamous cell carcinoma of the rectum is a rare tumour. The aetiology of the tumour is disputed, although in the present case there is strong evidence that squamous metaplasia of the rectal mucosa was closely related to the genesis of the carcinoma.
