Abstract
Anticholinesterases are the mainstay in the treatment of myasthenia gravis. They are also used in the reversal of neuromuscular blocking agents used during general anesthesia. Their use in gastrointestinal surgery, especially involving anastomosis of the distal ileum or colon, has been implicated in anastomotic disruptions. This paper discusses the controversy in the use of reversal agents (anticholinesterases) in colon surgery and specifically in patients with myasthenia gravis.Entities:
