Fig. 1A 65-year-old female patient with an inflammatory fibroid polyp in appendix.
A. Endoscopic findings: a redish and round mass that is bulging into the cecal lumen at the appendiceal orifice.
B–D. Axial pre-contrast phase (B), axial portal phase (C), and coronal arterial phase (D) images, of a contrast intravenous bolus computed tomography scan. The images show a 1-cm oval mass (arrows) with a strong enhancement at the lumen of the appendiceal orifice, with a low-density center.
E. Hematoxylin and eosin stain of the mass from the appendiceal orifice. A low-powered view shows a round mass with a normal mucosa, glands, and vessels, as well as many fibroblasts and inflammatory cells (× 10).
