Balloon probe for the colonoscopic small intestinal enema (CE).

E Frimberger.

Abstract

The colonoscopic small intestinal enema (CE) permits the radiological examination of a large portion of the distal small intestine during colonoscopy. The colon (endoscopically) and the small intestine (radiologically) can thus be examined in one session. With a new balloon probe that can be passed through the instrumentation channel of the endoscope, it is no longer necessary to prepare the colonoscope by fitting a circular balloon as previously described, before introducing it into the patient. With the balloon probe, CE can be carried out at any time if an unexpected finding such as inflammation of the ileo-cecal valve makes the examination of the ileum desirable.
