It is a tradition at the Korean Congress of Radiology (KCR) to recognize the most impactful original research article and occasionally, the most impactful review article published in the Korean Journal of Radiology (KJR) by awarding the authors during the annual congress. Another tradition at KCR is the Editor’s Recognition Award for Distinguished Reviewers, to appreciate the contributions of select KJR reviewers with outstanding review performances. KJR began publishing the names of the award recipients in an editorial in 2021, in an attempt to better recognize their contributions to the journal [1]. The recipient of the 2022 Most Impactful KJR Article Award is Soon Ho Yoon (Seoul National University College of Medicine), for “Chest Radiographic and CT Findings of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19): Analysis of Nine Patients Treated in Korea” [2]. This paper was selected from all the original research articles published in the journal over the last three years, including the award year. The paper was published in early 2020, at the onset of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic and was highly impactful, despite its analysis of only a small number of patients, because it was one of the seminal papers that revealed the radiological findings of COVID-19 pneumonia to the world. This paper has been cited 679 times and 331 times according to Google Scholar and Web of Science, respectively, at the time of writing this editorial. Research studies on COVID-19 have generally been enormously influential across various fields of medicine and science since the COVID-19 pandemic onset, which is not surprising considering the huge impact that COVID-19 had on all facets of our lives. As a result, research studies on COVID-19 affected scholarly publications and citations as well as the Journal Impact Factors of numerous journals [345678910111213]. This phenomenon was also noted in KJR as even some case reports on COVID-19 were cited much more than nearly all original research studies published in the past three years [14151617]. The Editor’s Recognition Award for Distinguished Reviewers is for a small group (less than 10%) of reviewers chosen for the high quality and quantity of their prompt, scholarly reviews. This year, the editors selected 27 award recipients as listed below. In addition to these specific reviewers, the KJR editors acknowledge all our reviewers and sincerely appreciate their contributions.
