Supernumerary ovary. A case report.

F Harlass, D Magelssen, A P Soisson.

Abstract

To date only 13 cases of histologically confirmed supernumerary ovary have been reported. This case met Wharton's criteria and histologically represents the 14th case. The patient had undergone a transabdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy for chronic pelvic pain. Several years postoperatively she again presented with a complaint of pelvic pain. At surgery a mass was found on the anterior descending colon. The mass was bilobed and was projecting from beneath the taenia coli. The final pathology report revealed ovarian tissue.
