Abstract
Objective: Previous studies have shown that an increased prevalence of mental illness can be found among medical and dental students. Among these, somatization symptoms are severely understudied. The present study examined the prevalence of somatization symptoms in a subpopulation of medical and dental students and aimed at finding associated risk and resilience factors.Entities:

Figure 1Distribution of symptom frequencies of the somatization index among dental and medical students.
The box plot shows the distribution of symptom frequencies of the somatization index among dental and medical students. Furthermore, the mean, the median, the reference value of the general population (blue line = 3.35), and the cut-off value of seven (red line) are shown.
Bivariate relationship between risk/resilience factors and the somatization index, prevalence of risk/resilience factors within the two groups of students, and χ2 test on contingency between the variables ‘course of study’ and ‘risk/resilience factor’.
