Figure 1.Flowsheet of Study Design. 483 out of 553 patient charts were retrospectively reviewed and included in the study. Inclusion criteria included patients over the age of 18 with past medical history of cancer who presented to the ED with active cancer and a chief complaint of pain. Active cancer was defined as a diagnosis of cancer with ongoing treatment, ongoing symptoms relating to cancer, or a known recurrence of a previous cancer.
