Fig. 1The case-crossover study design. Case period was defined as a 30-day window before the index date of new-onset pneumonia. Two control periods were each defined as a 30-day window in a 30-day interval. A 60-day washout period was set between the end of the last control period and the start of the case period.
Fig. 2The sensitivity test design. The case and two control periods were changed from 30 to 45 or 60 days.

Association between antihypertensive use and pneumonia risk
| Type of antihypertensive | Crude OR (95% CI) | Adjusted ORa (95% CI) |
|---|---|---|
| ACE inhibitors | 0.529 (0.453–0.618) | 0.660 (0.558–0.781) |
