Abstract
Background: The multifactorial etiology of acute respiratory failure (ARF) often complicates diagnosis at an early stage of clinical presentation. Despite being a common life-threatening disorder, accurate and timely diagnosis is hindered by bad quality of bedside radiographs and nonavailability of immediate computed tomography imaging. This study was an attempt to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of ultrasound in diagnosing ARF.Entities:

Figure 1Ultrasound and chest X-ray of a female patient aged about 50 years presenting with sudden onset of breathlessness, postbronchoscopy. (a) A lines and barcode sign in the ultrasound of the right lung and (b) right peripheral radiolucent area in the chest X-ray with no vascular markings consistent with right pneumothorax. A male patient presenting with hemoptysis: (c) A lines in the right lung ultrasound and (d) superficial femoral vein thrombus in Doppler of the left leg
