Retrograde intubation of the trachea.

R M McNamara.

Abstract

Retrograde tracheal intubation may be of particular use in situations in which orotracheal intubation is technically impossible or contraindicated. The technique can be performed despite the presence of blood or secretions in the upper airway. It is an alternative to cricothyroidotomy in patients with short, obese, or anatomically distorted necks.
