Abstract
The combination of increased ability of the bacteria to adhere plus susceptible epithelial cells appears to predispose certain women to infection. The author presents a practical approach to the selection and employment of common urinary tract agents for pre- and postmenopausal women. Discussed are therapeutic goals, initial and chronic therapy, and complications of treatment (in postmenopausal women, pregnancy, and renal failure).Entities:
