Abstract
BACKGROUND: No previous study has investigated the relationship between middle cerebral artery (MCA) flow velocity and the severity of hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) evaluated by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The aim of this study was to assess the correlation between cerebral blood flow as assessed by transcranial Doppler sonography and the severity of MRI brain injury in asphyxiated neonates with clinical HIE who received therapeutic hypothermia.Entities:

Fig. 1A total of 30 neonates with perinatal asphyxia who received therapeutic hypothermia were identified. We excluded four neonates. In a total, 26 asphyxiated neonates were enrolled, including 12 with positive HIE finding on MRI and 14 with negative HIE findings on MRI. (HIE = hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy; MRI = magnetic resonance imaging; TCD = transcranial Doppler sonography).
