Abstract
PURPOSE: Respiratory distress is known as one of the leading causes of neonatal death. In recent decades, surfactant therapy has revolutionized respiratory failure. Since the implementation of the health system reform plan as well as the allocation of new financial resources for health system in Iran, the rate of irrational prescription has increased and prescription of surfactant for neonates, has raised unexpectedly, which is thought to be due to irrational prescriptions partly. The present study aimed to determine the rate of irrational prescription of surfactant for neonates with respiratory distress.Entities:

2 Intrauterine pneumonia.
3 Out of a total of 709 neonates with rational index of drug selection, rational surfactant selection index was confirmed for 18 neonates in all these four indicators, for 167 neonates in three indicators, for 258 neonates in two indicators, and for 266 neonates only in one indicator.
