Abstract
Introduction: On July 22, 2020, the Japanese government launched the "Go to Travel" campaign that subsidizes 50% of personal travel expenditure to support the tourism industry under the COVID-19 pandemic. This policy was controversial from the viewpoint of infection spread and was temporarily cancelled in December 2020, though there was no statistical evidence.Entities:

These are estimation results of the generalized difference-in-differences, equation (2). Sample period: June 1—September 20. Standard errors are in parentheses. *p < 0.1, **p < 0.05.
The baseline model with sample cities that satisfies parallel trend assumptions. Fig. 1 lists the sample cities.
Besides the baseline model's sample cities, borderline cities (Fujimi, Matsudo, Fujimino, Toda, Fuchu, Toshima-ku, and Bunkyo-ku) are included.
Although the sample cities are the same as the baseline model, the period of log difference of the number of cases is changed from two weeks to one week.
Includes all commuting cities of Tokyo as samples according to the definition Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (2010).
