Abstract
BACKGROUND: Female genital mutilation (FGM) is defined as the partial or complete removal of the external female genitalia for non-medical reasons. There are some complications related to childbirth that concern both the mother and the baby. | Type 1 | Partial or total removal of the clitoral glans and/or the clitoral hood |

| Type 3 | Narrowing of the vaginal opening through the creation of a covering seal, also called infibulation |
