Traumatic dorsoradial dislocation of the trapezium.

D A Sherlock.

Abstract

Two examples of traumatic dorsoradial dislocation of the trapezium are presented. Only three cases have previously been reported. Forced flexion of the first metacarpal is probably the basic mode of dislocation. It is suggested that open reduction and Kirschner wire fixation is the treatment of choice. Late excision or arthrodesis should be used in failed cases.
