Abstract
Introduction: With nearly 1,612,505 industrial workers in Karnataka, controlling hypertension among them is necessary to reduce subsequent non-communicable diseases (NCDs). However, information on prevalence, incidence, and risk for hypertension among industrial workers is limited.Entities:

Definitions: Prevalence=Number of existing cases per 100 employees attending AME; Incidence (%) cumulative incidence or incidence proportion=Number of new cases per 100 employees at-risk; Incidence rate=Number of new cases per 1000 person-months of observation time; Employees-at-risk: Employees with normal Blood pressure. Note: Incidence cannot be computed for year 2010 as we are not aware whether it’s a new case of elevated BP (being identified as hypertensive for first time). Total number of employees with elevated BP in 5-year period=313; 5-year period prevalence=48.9%; Number of employees with elevated BP every year=5 employees. Overall incidence rate=257 new cases in 23016 person-months of observation time=11.2 cases per 1000 person-months of observation. Denominator: At Risk population to calculate incidence per 100 at-risk employees=2011=584, 2012=488, 2013=450, 2014=396; Observation time in person-months=2010-11=7008, 2011-12=5856, 2012-13=5400, 2013-14=4752, Total=23016.
