Dear Editor, we would like to share ideas on the publication “GoogleTrend (GT)s as a patient therapeutic education resource on extracorporeal life support: What do patients want to know?”
Aleman et al. found that GT adds to our understanding of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).
When properly analyzed, the usage of these trends can potentially increase PTE and therapeutic awareness via certain medical‐related websites, according to Aleman et al.
This may represent a trend in which the general public prefers to use a simple tool to look for information on COVID‐19 and therapy. Certainly, the search should not be practicable for severe patients who require ECMO. A healthy individual who can utilize the internet could use the information gleaned through searching. Any website can provide data, but the accuracy of the data is the most critical consideration.
Apparently, medical‐relevant websites fail to appropriately address these for patient therapeutic education aims, as stated by Aleman et al.
The provision of reliable, accurate data regarding COVID‐19 is an imperative policy. A good medical IT system could help with this. Finally, we must remember that there are a number of underserved populations who are unable to use the internet. For health education, it should not rely solely on complex online systems; instead, a basic traditional way should be employed in tandem.
