Abstract
Purpose: The indocyanine green retention rate at 15 min (ICG-R15) is of great importance in the accurate assessment of hepatic functional reserve for safe hepatic resection. To assist clinicians to evaluate hepatic functional reserve in medical institutions that lack expensive equipment, we aimed to explore a novel approach to predict ICG-R15 based on CT images and clinical data in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).Entities:

Spearman correlation coefficient (Rho) was adopted to evaluate the association between ICG-R15 and radiomics features or clinical factors. Variables with |Rho| > 0.3 were picked out for model development.

The performance of RFR, XGBR and ANN models in predicting ICG-R15 was evaluated by using Pearson correlation coefficient (R).

Figure 2Scatter plots show actual vs. estimated ICG-R15 in the test cohort with great agreement. Three machine learning models [random forest regression (RFR), extreme gradient boosting regression (XGBR), and artificial neural network (ANN)] were developed and Pearson correlation coefficient (R) was adopted to assess the correlation between actual and estimated ICG-R15 in the test cohort. (A) RFR, R = 0.89; (B) XGBR, R = 0.90; (C) ANN, R = 0.85. Figure 3ROC curves of actual and estimated indocyanine green retention rate at 15 min [ICG-R15(XGBR)] for predicting post hepatectomy liver failure (PHLF) grades B-C. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was used to evaluate the performance of actual and estimated ICG-R15(XGBR) for predicting PHLF grades B-C. The area under ROCs of actual (A) and estimated ICG-R15(XGBR) (B) were 0.74 and 0.75, respectively.
