After intranasal S. pneumoniae infection, TBK1-deficient mice show unaltered neutrophil recruitment into lungs but reduced neutrophilic ROS production, decreased pulmonary production of proinflammatory mediators, slightly higher bacterial loads in the lung, and increased mortality compared with control animals.
