Use of an enzyme indirect antiglobulin test for the diagnosis of autoimmune haemolytic anaemia in the dog.

D R Jones.

Abstract

Blood samples from 34 dogs with autoimmune haemolytic anaemia (AIHA) were studied using a variety of serodiagnostic tests. Enzyme enhancement of red cells was found to be necessary for an unequivocal laboratory diagnosis of AIHA because other techniques, the direct and the indirect Coombs' tests, often gave negative results. The most frequently encountered auto-antibody was an IgG, with a titre of 1024 or more.
