Abstract
Background: Secondary prevention medication after stroke reduces risk of recurrence, but adherence is often poor. Stroke survivors', carers' and nurses' perspectives of early post-stroke medication adherence are unexplored. | First or recurrent stroke as primary diagnosis leading to hospital admission |
| Aged 18 or over |
| Discharged to own home (not residential care) |
| Not receiving end-of-life care |
| Prescribed new and/or continuing oral medication on discharge |
| Able to converse in English |
| Having capacity to consent to participation |
|

| Aged 18 or over |
| Friend or relative providing practical and/or emotional support for a participating stroke survivor |
| Able to converse in English |
|
|
| Registered nurses (all aged 18 or over and able to converse in English) |
| Working on acute and/or rehabilitation stroke unit |
| Nurses in full- or part-time posts |
