Abstract
Following a request from the European Commission, EFSA was asked to deliver a scientific opinion on the safety and efficacy of lanthanum carbonate octahydrate (Lanthan One) as a zootechnical feed additive for cats. The FEEDAP Panel concluded that lanthanum carbonate octahydrate is safe for cats at the maximum proposed use level of 7,500 mg/kg complete feed. The additive is not irritant to skin or eyes, is not a skin sensitiser and exposure of users by inhalation is considered unlikely. The Panel also concluded that the additive is efficacious as a phosphate binder in adult cats at the minimum proposed conditions of use (1,500 mg/kg complete feedingstuffs).Entities:
