Normotension: SBP <140 mm Hg and DBP <90 mm Hg, grade 1a: SBP 140-159 mm Hg or DBP 90-99 mm Hg with no other CVRFs, grade 1b: SBP 140-159 mm Hg or DBP 90-99 mm Hg with another CVRF, grade 2: SBP 160–179 mm Hg or DBP 100–109 mm Hg, grade 3: SBP ≥180 mm Hg. If an individual had differential grades of systolic and diastolic BP, they were assigned the more severe of the two categories. Additional cardiovascular risk factors: smoking, diabetes, men aged ≥55 years, women aged ≥65 years, men waist circumference ≥94 cm, women waist circumference ≥80 cm.
CVRF, cardiovascular risk factor; DBP, diastolic blood pressure; SBP, systolic blood pressure.
