Combined auto- and alloosteochondral grafts for large defects.

M Roffman.

Abstract

A 19-year-old male patient with a traumatic loss of the lateral femoral condyle underwent surgery where combined osteochondral auto- and allograft was used. Biopsy of the grafted cartilage at 1 1/2 years after transplantation revealed complete replacement of the hyaline cartilage by fibrocartilage. In spite of this finding the clinical and functional results were excellent.
