Figure 1Procedures for induction of sub-Tenon’s capsule anesthesia (STA; left) and trans-Tenon’s capsule retrobulbar anesthesia (TTRBA; right). For STA, the sclera was exposed by an incision made in the conjunctiva and Tenon’s capsule in the inferonasal area. A 25-gauge dull needle designed for STA was inserted between the sclera and Tenon’s capsule; 3 mL of 2% lidocaine were injected below Tenon’s space. For TTRBA, the sclera was exposed in the inferotemporal area; a 23-gauge cannula designed for TTRBA was then inserted between the sclera and Tenon’s capsule. A 25-gauge sharp (50-mm) needle was then inserted in the cannula and 3 mL of 2% lidocaine were injected into the muscle cone.
