Pre-emptive Designing of Immediate Surgical Obturator.

Kasim Mohamed1,2, R Subhiksha1, K Preetha1.

Abstract

The significance of fabricating and delivering an immediate surgical obturator is well known. Nevertheless, its design has not been given much consideration owing to a short duration of usage. The utilization of a surgical obturator has a long-term effect on the patient's tissues and, if not fabricated using an appropriate technique, can result in deleterious biological as well as psychological effects on the patient. This article sheds light on its importance, suggesting a modification in its design which attempts to either eradicate or diminish the deleterious effects. This in turn could bring about a more aesthetic outcome, improving the overall quality of life of the patient in the long run. © Indian Association of Surgical Oncology 2021.
