Fractures of the femur in childhood.

P Wellington1, G C Bennet.

Abstract

Child abuse, usually diagnosed by its soft-tissue signs, is not often considered as a cause of fractures of the femur in young children. In this retrospective review of 150 such fractures we show that child abuse was suspected or proven in 22 per cent of the fractures in the under-5 year age group, and in 39 per cent of the under-1 year group.
