Abstract
OBJECTIVES: Women have a higher prevalence of metabolic syndrome than their male counterparts, and interventions should target women with or at risk for metabolic syndrome. The objective of this study was to compare two intervention strategies on long-term outcomes following the completion of an exercise intervention.Entities:

Criteria for metabolic syndrome for the US women.
| Measure | Variable cutoff |
|---|---|
| WC | ⩾88 cm |
| TG | ⩾150 mg/dL or on drug treatment for elevated TG |
| Blood pressure | ⩾130 mmHg SBP or ⩾85 mmHg DBP or on antihypertensive drug treatment |
| FBG | ⩾100 mg/dL or on drug treatment for elevated glucose |
| HDL | ⩽50 mg/dL or on drug treatment for reduced HDL |
DBP: diastolic blood pressure; FBG: fasting blood glucose; HDL: high-density cholesterol; SBP: systolic blood pressure; TG: triglycerides; WC: waist circumference.
