Abstract
Contraindications to performing a lumbar puncture include local infection, intracranial hypertension and complete spinal block. Routine parameters include pressure, appearance, glucose, protein and cytology. Specific studies such as antigen-antibody tests may identify infectious agents. The color of the CSF may indicate infection, previous hemorrhage or, rarely, metastatic melanoma. The IgG-albumin index is useful when there is inflammation, as in multiple sclerosis.Entities:
