Bleeding rectal varices following injection sclerotherapy of oesophageal varices in a child.

A A Azmy1.

Abstract

Bleeding from oesophageal varices accounts for most of upper gastrointestinal bleeding in children (4). Repeat injection sclerotherapy proved to be a practical and effective method to control the bleeding and obliterate the varices (5, 8). This report describes a 13-year-old girl with portal hypertension who developed massive rectal variceal bleeding after repeat injection sclerotherapy of oesophageal varices.
