Massive upper gastrointestinal bleeding from haemorrhagic gastritis in the newborn.

D W Man.

Abstract

A case is reported of massive upper gastrointestinal bleeding in a newborn on the second day. Failure to control the bleeding by conservative measures necessitated an exploration. Haemorrhagic gastritis was found to be the cause of bleeding. Vagotomy and pyloroplasty was performed with satisfactory results. Management of this condition in the newborn is discussed.
