Open study with bromperidol in hospitalized chronic schizophrenic patients.

W Hermans.

Abstract

A one-year treatment with bromperidol in a group of 30 patients (schizophrenic) has given us the impression that the product is a valuable antipsychotic drug which in most cases can successfully be substituted for haloperidol. The sedating effect of bromperidol seems to be somewhat lower than that of haloperidol. This could explain the fact that patients, who had periods of serious agitation in their anamnesis, are not sufficiently sedated by bromperidol alone. On the other hand, there are reasons for supposing that the less sedating or possible more stimulating effect of bromperidol can be beneficial in the treatment of particularly autistic or inhibited schizophrenics.
