Palatal lift prostheses for edentulous patients.

Y Sato, M Sato, K Yoshida, H Tsuru.

Abstract

A palatal lift prosthesis technique for edentulous patients has been described. A movable palatopharyngeal section that elevates the soft palate by the force of orthodontic wires was designed. The prosthesis with the movable palatopharyngeal section improved both speech and swallowing. This method may be useful for some edentulous patients with hypernasal speech.
