Articular eminectomy for recurrent dislocation.

M A Pogrel.

Abstract

Articular eminectomy was carried out on 15 patients for correction of recurrent temporomandibular joint dislocation. The operation was successful in all cases in that recurrent dislocation was prevented. The success, however, seemed to occur because of restriction of condylar motion on the affected side, rather than by allowing greater freedom. The main complication of the surgery was transient paresis of the associated branches of the facial nerves.
