Abstract
BACKGROUND: Some investigations point to the beneficial effects of yoga in alleviating the motor and cognitive dysfunctions in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients by using varying combinations of physical, breathing, and meditative practices of yoga. There is a need for a validated yoga module with a holistic approach that can be used as a standardized protocol by researchers and therapists.Entities:

Figure 2.Flowchart for the Development of a Yoga Module
Five aspects of personality (Pancha Kosha and the practices).
| Level of Yoga Practices | Practices |
| Mastery over modifications of the mind by using physical (Annamaya Kosha) level practices* | Loosening exercises (Sukshma vyayamas) are very simple joint movements that prepare the body for asana by reducing joint stiffness. These are of special values in RRMS cases that may not be able to do complex postures (asana). |
| Asanas are physical postures maintained in
the final posture with specific stretches with
effortlessness sthira-sukham-āsanam ||46||.
| |
| Yogic diet: Vegetarian nutritious wholesome
food that makes the mind calm (sattvic diet) is the
recommendation according to yoga. ( | |
| Practices for healing the imbalances at the vital energy (Pranamaya Kosha)* | Breathing exercises and breath cleansing: Increases breathing awareness, clears the lungs, corrects breathing habits, and enhances lung capacity. |
| Pranayama: Slows down the rate of breathing and restores autonomous equilibrium by relaxing the mind. | |
| Calm down the flow of thoughts for healing the distress at the mind and emotions level (Manomaya Kosha)* | Dharana and Dhyana (meditation) for creating awareness and slowing down the mind by alternate stimulation and relaxation. |
| Emotion culture through Bhakti Yoga (devotional sessions) for complete mastery over all distressful negative thoughts. | |
| Practices for healing the distress by invoking discriminative power (Vignanamaya Kosha)* | Practices used for healing the diseases of Vignanamaya Kosha include:Lectures and yogic counseling using yogic concepts from Bhakti Yoga, Jnana Yoga, Karma Yoga, and Raja Yoga to strengthen willpower and achieve fearless acceptance to cope with chronic disabilities. |
| Self-knowledge, the Anandamaya Kosha* | All yoga practices are aimed to invoke this self-healer, the blissful quiet inner state with mindful awareness, perfect poise, and freedom of choice where anxious thoughts and worries do not bother the mind. |
Note. *Conceptual basis of healing (IAYT) based on published scriptural references.
