Figure 2Study classification tree. Beginning with the root node, the infection rate for all patients in the cohort was 13%. The first node depicted was age, with an infection rate of 42% for age ≥77 y and 12% for age <77 y. For age ≥77 y, the rate of infection decreased to 23% when DXM equivalent ≥11mg, and the rate of infection increased to 64% when DXM equivalent <11mg. For age <77 y, total gastrectomy, dexamethasone equivalent <7 mg, and systolic blood pressure <90 mmHg for >10 min increased the infection rate, whereas distal or proximal gastrectomy, dexamethasone equivalent ≥7 mg, and systolic blood pressure <90 mmHg for ≤10 min decreased the infection rate.
