Abstract
INTRODUCTION: MicroRNAs are small, non-coding RNA molecules that are becoming popular biomarkers in several diseases. However, their low abundance in serum/plasma poses a challenge in exploiting their potential in clinics. Several commercial kits are available for rapid isolation of microRNA from plasma. However, reports guiding the selection of appropriate kits to study downstream assays are scarce. Hence, we compared four commercial kits to evaluate microRNA-extraction from plasma and provided a modified protocol that further improved the superior kit's performance.Entities:

| Results are represented as median and interquartile range (Q1-Q3). The differences between the four kits were estimated using one way ANOVA. Multiple comparisons were made using Tukey’s test. For all tests, P < 0.05 was considered significant. *Comparing miRNeasy Serum/Plasma and miRNeasy Mini kit; †comparing miRNeasy Serum/Plasma and RNA Isolation kit; ‡comparing miRNeasy Serum/Plasma and Absolutely RNA MicroRNA kit; §comparing miRNeasy Mini and RNA isolation kit; ǁcomparing miRNeasy Mini and Absolutely RNA MicroRNA kit; ¶comparing Absolutely RNA MicroRNA kit and RNA Isolation. | |||||
