Abstract
OBJECTIVE: Mental health emergencies among young people are increasing. There is growing pressure for emergency departments to screen patients for mental health needs even when it is not their chief complaint. We hypothesized that young people with an initial non-specific condition and emergency department (ED) revisits have increased mental health needs.Entities:

ED revisits under “No Mental Health ED Visit” equates to the number of visits 365 days after the index visit (because the patient had no subsequent mental health revisit); ED revisits under “New Mental ED Health Visit” equates to the number of visits between the index visit and the new mental health ED visit that occurred within 365 days of the index visit.
