Pseudo-avascular necrosis of the hips in a sporadic case of osteopetrosis.

N Manolios1, J Wiseman, J Webb.

Abstract

A patient with diffuse osteosclerosis consistent with 'benign' osteopetrosis had skeletal scintiscan findings indistinguishable from bilateral avascular necrosis of the femoral heads. This was due to epiphyseal sparing in a region locally involved by the diffuse bony change.
