Dear Editor,We would like to share ideas on “A case of severe COVID‐19 despite full vaccination with mRNA‐1273 SARS‐CoV‐2 vaccine (Moderna) in a kidney transplant recipient.”
Regardless type of vaccine, COVID‐19 after complete vaccination is sporadically reported. For mRNA vaccine, the high efficacy is accepted. Vaccine failure might be due to several reasons. A transplantation recipient might have poor immune system and develop poor immunity. However, the previous study showed that immune response after COVID‐19 vaccination in transplant recipient is good.
Another common but little mentioned reason is incorrect administration of vaccine. An incorrect administration can result in poor immunity response and it might cause unwanted side effect.
In addition, a proper temperature control for vaccine before vaccine administration is necessary. A poor temperature control might result in poor vaccine quality and poor immunogenicity. These factors might be reasons for failure of vaccination in reported case.
