Abstract
OBJECTIVE: This short communication investigates the usefulness of time-use measures to validate subjective health measures such as self-reported health (SRH). It does this by examining time-use patterns and SRH among middle-age adults in the United States distinguished by race/ethnicity and with additional attention to differences in responses based on language of interview for Hispanics.Entities:

Fig. 1Hypothetical time-use patterns for the population by health status. In this scenario, those who are classified as in “good health” (Excellent/Very Good/Good) are expected to have a time distribution similar or close to that of the gold-standard time-use patterns of 8 h of work, 8 h of sleep and 8 h doing leisure or other activities (Johnson & Lipscomb, 2006). Those classified as in “bad health” (Poor/Fair) are expected to deviate from this patterns with less time for work and more time devoted to the other two types of activities.
