Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIM: The aims of this study were to determine whether a postoperative decrease in skeletal muscle mass (SMM) after hepatic resection can predict long-term outcomes in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and identify risk factors for SMM loss in patients who undergo hepatic resection.Entities:

Figure 1Histogram of the post‐/pre‐ratios. The median post‐/pre‐ratio was 0.97 (interquartile range, 0.92–1.03). Of the 400 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma, 60 (15.0%) were classified into the skeletal muscle mass loss group with a cutoff value of 0.9 for the post‐/pre‐ratio. Post‐/pre‐ratio, postoperative skeletal muscle mass (SMM) (cm2/m2) divided by preoperative SMM (cm2/m2).
