Abstract
OBJECTIVE: Impaired face perception is considered as a hallmark of social disability in schizophrenia. It is widely believed that inverted faces and upright faces are processed by distinct mechanisms. Previous studies have identified that individuals with schizophrenia display poorer face processing than controls. However, the mechanisms underlying the face inversion effect (FIE) in patients with first-episode schizophrenia (FSZ) remain unclear.Entities:

Figure 1An illustration of the procedure. For each run, images sample displays containing a sequence of upright faces, objects, inverted faces, scrambled faces, and happy faces that appeared at a rate of 2 Hz in blocks of 12s and with 12s blank blocks interval at a time. Each image stimulus was presented for 300 ms, followed by a 200 ms interstimulus interval per block. The sum of the duration of fixation and sample displays was constant. Each block presented 24 images per stimulus type and lasted 12s. These images were randomly selected from the same category type. Each category contains 30 images. Faces images sample included female and male faces on each half.
