Retained surgical sponge 40 years after laminectomy. Case report.

Abstract

A man who previously had had a spinal operation was found to have a cavitary lesion in the dorsal bony elements of the lumbosacral spine. At surgery, it was found to contain a sterile, decayed surgical sponge.
