Abstract
(1) Background: Sepsis is a life-threatening disease, and various demographic and socioeconomic factors affect outcomes in sepsis. However, little is known regarding the potential association between health insurance status and outcomes of sepsis in Korea. We evaluated the association of health insurance and clinical outcomes in patients with sepsis. (2)Entities:

Data are presented as median (interquartile range) for continuous variables, and number (%) for categorical variables. a Propensity score matching was conducted using patient age, sex, comorbidities, initial mean BP at ED, source of visit, source of infection, septic shock, SOFA score, lactate >2 mmol/L, DNR, and AMA order status. SMD, standardized mean difference; BP, blood pressure; ED, emergency department; SOFA, Sequential Organ Failure Assessment; DNR, do-not-resuscitate; AMA, against medical advice.
Figure 2Comparison of NHI versus MA in various variables. The MA group had fewer males (NHI vs. MA, 59.7% vs. 50.3%, p = 0.009), more chronic kidney disease (7.7% vs. 12.2%, p = 0.027), more multiple sources of infection (1.8% vs. 5.1%, p = 0.010), and more patients with initial lactate >2 mmol/L (44.1% vs. 59.9%, p < 0.001). NHI, National Health Insurance; MA, Medical Aid; DNR, do-not-resuscitate; AMA, against medical advice; MV, mechanical ventilation; HD, hemodialysis; CRRT, continuous renal replacement therapy; CI, confidence interval.
