Abstract
INTRODUCTION: The current gold standard for detection of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) RNA involves subjecting nasopharyngeal or oropharyngeal swabs to reverse transcription quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR). However, both sample types need to be collected by trained professionals. Using self-collected buccal swabs as an alternative could simplify and accelerate diagnosis of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).Entities:

Figure 1.RT-qPCR Ct value comparison for different sample types. (a) A comparison of total positive NPS (n = 73), buccal swabs (n = 43), and saliva samples (n = 39) was conducted. The horizontal line represents the mean Ct value in every group. (b) Connecting lines denote patient matched samples. The green lines represent NPS pairing with buccal swabs or saliva samples while the red lines denote pairing of buccal swab and saliva samples.
